Dead Teenager Records was started by a fellow named Sluggo in SF. We all became friends, Ben, a former manager, business guy and musician, Donny Paycheck from ZEKE and we went for it and did a big little indie.
We released some amazing records with basically no money. We got great distro without selling out. Our artists toured and gained a following. Those that had a following helped the others along.
These bands all worked their asses off, some for the duration, some only until they got the next step up, and left is with the debt of their initial release, but these are the prices you pay making a decision to run a label. We took those chances and sometimes lost, sometimes won, but always had a good time and nobody got screwed really, but the collective.
The stress of business and differences of opinion got in the way of friendship, like most companies by friends, and everyone they went their separate ways, Donny went on with ZEKE and Sluggo formed Wondertaker Records.
The reason this label existed is because of the love for Rock and Roll and good records, and dreams coupled with the hard work of three buddies.
Amen to that amazing friendship, it made something tangible that made a lot of people happy, had a lot of fun, and put out good records.
Remember kids, friendship before business always. A dollar is not always worth a person.
